When Jesus sends out his messengers, he never lets them go out unequipped. Rather he thoroughly instructs them in every way to accomplish the task at hand. The 12 disciples were sent to the lost sheep of Israel, they were told to take nothing along on the journey and stay with those that would receive their message of the kingdom.
