This passage of scripture marks God's call of Abram out of Ur of the Chaldeans and to the land of Canaan. God promised to make Abram a great nation and through him to bless all the families of the earth. Ultimately this promise points forward to the blessing of redemption that overflows to all peoples in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Abram followed the call of God, looking forward in faith to the fulfilment of these promises.
