Jesus ends his discourse by telling the disciples what devotion to him will look like: they are to take up their cross and follow him. And yet he also promises that those who fulfill their ministry by showing kindness to even the humblest of people, will by no means lose their reward. This then is the hope for all of Jesus' followers: the rewards of eternal life are greater than the cost of discipleship
