As Moses is receiving the ten commandments from God on Mt. Sinai, the people of Israel, under the leadership of Aaron, make a golden calf and worship it. As a result God's wrath burns against the people and Moses intercedes to God on their behalf. We see that God's holiness and man's sinfulness are not compatible.
